Traditional Turkish Arts Department aims to educate creative designers who have art education within the Traditional Arts and gain sight and perception ability and who have authentic and modern approach by absorbing our traditional values with their own artistic quality. Our department has been founded in 1999 under the name of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Department with three main art departments. In present, it continues giving education under the name of Traditional Turkish Arts with Ornamentation (Decoration), Tile Design, Carpet-Rug and Calligraphy (Since 2010) Main Art Departments. Our staff consists of 2 professors, 1 Associate Professor, 2 Assistant of Professors, 6 LecturerS and 2 research associate
 
Our department accepts 35 students with special talent exam at the beginning of every academic year. In the first year, our students take common basic art and culture courses, in the second year, they choose the main art department they are interested and they continue their education for 6 terms at this department. At the end of the undergraduate education, our department that produce graduates with 240 AKTS, in 2013-2014 academic year, our department has made some improvements and regulations at the teaching plan with the aim that the students are trained more equipped with the courses they take. Thereby, it becomes possible that the students can train themselves in different departments by taking elective courses except from the main art courses they have chosen. Our postgraduate education within the Institute of Social Sciences, continues to produce graduates with different courses in ornamentation, tile, carpet-rug, fabric and calligraphy under sole name with mutual discipline. 
 
Our department continues education and the studies in the design and restoration division with the aim of carrying our traditional arts to the future that have started to perish recently by reviving them, and teaching the ways of scientific research to archive and determine the living and perishing products. After our students graduate, they can be employed as designer in ateliers and in the factories, as restorator in libraries and in restoration centers.
